One workshop was organized during the second quarter of 2008, for women focal points, in the Agricultural Offices, who are looking after the promotion of the low pressure (bucket) irrigation systems among rural women. The workshop was organized in Dhamar, Taiz and Lahej. A total of 36 women focal points from all FUs participated in this workshop. | |

Public Awareness | |
A Farmers’ Extension Manuals on crop water requirements, irrigation frequency and dates was prepared by the Irrigation Agronomist and the IAS Coordinator in PCU and with the involvement of the IAS specialists in the FUs. The contents of the Farmer Manuals are different for different FU because the cropping pattern in each FU is different. A total of 6,000 copies of these Manuals were produced and distributed to the farmers in the 11 FUs. The IAS specialists in the FUs will explain the contents of the Manual to the farmers during the field days and other evenings. The distribution of these Manuals is completed during the second quarter of 2008.

The Irrigation Advisory Services (IAS) continues to provide vital technical and advisory services to farmers and carry out social mobilization and awareness campaigns related to water shortage issues.
The PCU and FUs have furthermore concluded mandatory tripartite agreements between beneficiary farmers, FUs, and water user groups or other local representative entities in order to ensure that the farmers will abide by the stipulated conditions, such as the non-expansion of irrigated areas.
